so for those of you who want to increase performance. there are 2 simple things you can do to increase fps.
1. turn of decals. this can be done in the effects menu. decals are bullet marks and scorches on the map. if you play a game on a big map these marks quickly get everywhere and slow down performance.
2. go to the console by hitting the " ~ " key and type this-(without the quotations) "gl_picmip_world 1337". this turns off all the fancy map textures and gives the game a steam lined look. i use this setting and it really helps out.
